The curly was bred as a wildfowlers dog, the waterproof, thick curly coat protecting them from the freezing marsh. The curly still enjoys the water, but works just as well on land. They can be quite headstrong, thinking they know better than we do, questioning a command "Are you sure it's over there? I think it went over here," and sometimes they are right. This is the reason they are not popular with 'proffesional' working people, who when they say, "jump," they expect the dog to say "how high" and not, "are you sure?". This said the curly is a very good picking up, or rough shooting dog. We have training days out of shooting season, usually in the Shropshire area. All are welcome, with or without dogs, and if you can throw a dummy even more so. If you are interested in coming along, we make training fun for everyone (the Curly cannot be bullied) please contact us by e-mail at roughyedscurlycoats@btinternet.com LATEST NEWS
There will be a training day with a test at the end (nothing to taxing) on Sunday 10th May 2009 in Telford. Everyone is welcome to take part, watch or help. If you are interested please contact Anthony or Elaine Robinson on 01952 660478.
